SÔROKO Festival: A Celebration of Betsimisaraka Culture
From October 29 to November 2, the SÔROKO Festival left a lasting impression with its festive atmosphere and
collective energy. As a true tribute to the region’s cultural richness and creativity, the event proudly revived the
culture and traditions of the Betsimisaraka people.
The carnival lit up the streets with a thousand colors,
featuring costumes made from local artisanal products. Traditional games and sporting activities brought people
together in a warm spirit of unity and conviviality, bringing this first edition of SÔROKO to life.
The festival’s
name comes from a traditional utensil, similar to a spoon, made from ravinala or longoza leaves and used during
ceremonies such as the Tsaboraha a strong symbol of tradition and respect, and a true source of pride for the
Betsimisaraka people.
More than just an event, SÔROKO is establishing itself as the region’s new major cultural
gathering, celebrating a blessed land known for the Masoala forests, its exceptional biodiversity, and the
hospitality of its inhabitants all while strengthening community bonds and contributing to tourism promotion and
the dynamism of the local economy.
