Arrival at Ivato. Steps for the visa. Guests are welcomed by our representative and transfer to hotel. Installation at the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
DAY 2 : ANTANANARIVO - ANTSIRABE
We leave the capital via the legendary RN7 and head towards Antsirabe. The winding road crosses the high plateaus, lined with small waterfalls and terraced rice fields, whose colors immerse us in a sea of greenery. We pass through Ambatolampy, the city of artisanal foundries, where we will visit a small workshop that produces aluminum cooking pots. We arrive in Antsirabe in the afternoon, a former thermal city. After checking into the hotel, we will explore the town and visit local artisans who skillfully craft zebu horn products or recycle tin cans into miniature cars.
DAY 3 :ANTSIRABE - RANOMAFANA
After a good breakfast, we head straight south with a first stop in Ambositra, about 90 km from Antsirabe on the famous RN7. We take the opportunity to visit the Zafimaniry workshops, specialized in marquetry and carvings on precious wood. Then, we leave this village to reach the tropical forests of Ranomafana. Along the way, we discover the small traditional villages of the Southeast coast. We are expected to arrive in Ranomafana in the afternoon, where we will visit the village and the thermal pool. Afterward, we check into the hotel for an overnight stay.
DAY 4 : RANOMAFANA - FIANARANTSOA (PARK RANOMAFANA)
In the morning, we take a guided walking excursion with a local guide in Ranomafana National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This dense, humid forest, along with its bamboo forest and marshland, is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species. We trek through the primary rainforest, which shelters more than a hundred bird species, a dozen endemic lemurs, as well as various endangered amphibians, reptiles, and butterflies. The flora is just as diverse, with epiphytic orchids, some carnivorous plants, and medicinal herbs. In the afternoon, we arrive in Fianarantsoa, the capital of the Betsileo highlands, which stretches across three levels and is composed of traditional houses with verandas and numerous churches. It is a major crossroads in the heart of the southern region. After checking in, we spend the night at the hotel.
DAY 5 : FIANARANTSOA - AMBALAVAO - RANOHIRA
After breakfast, we take a short tour of Fianarantsoa to admire its historic monuments. We then continue our journey to Ambalavao, where we visit a small workshop that produces traditional Antaimoro paper. Lunch is at your leisure at Résidence Betsileo, a beautiful site. We then resume our journey towards Ranohira, leaving behind the lush green landscapes of the highlands. As we pass through the gateway to the south, we enter Bara territory. We then cross the vast Horombe Plateau, the largest semi-arid plateau in Madagascar, before arriving in Ranohira in the late afternoon. We check into a charming hotel with an exceptional setting.
DAY 6 : RANOHIRA
We dedicate a full day to exploring Isalo National Park. We hike through this rugged sandstone massif, shaped by time since the Jurassic period, with its unique geomorphology, endemic vegetation, and a distinctive fauna, including rock-dwelling reptiles, most of which are endemic. The park offers breathtaking lunar landscapes, where deep canyons disappear into a savanna of tall grasses dotted with tapia forests. Accompanied by a local guide, we follow marked trails to discover natural pools, waterfalls, and lemurs. This journey takes us through a rich and mysterious culture shaped by geological ages, while we enjoy stunning panoramic views. We return to the village in the evening for an overnight stay.
DAY 7 : RANOHIRA - TULEAR - IFATY
We set off early on National Road 7 to reach Tuléar, 250 kilometers away. This route takes us through Ilakaka, a village that sprang up in just three months following the discovery of the world's largest sapphire deposit. You will be amazed by the vast savanna-like landscapes and the sight of the first baobab trees. By late morning, we arrive in Tuléar, also known as the "City of the Sun" due to its hot and arid climate, with 360 days of sunshine per year. We stop at Auberge de la Table, where we take the opportunity to visit the Arboretum, home to a wide variety of endemic plants and shrubs. This region is a fascinating blend of ethnic groups and cultures that will surprise you before we continue our journey to Ifaty. We take a small sandy track, passing through coastal villages and mangroves. We arrive in the late afternoon, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 8 : IFATY
Our journey comes to an end with a free day in Ifaty. This is the perfect time to relax, swim, and unwind on the white sandy beaches of Ifaty’s lagoon. You can also take a ride in a traditional pirogue, a picturesque boat typical of this region. For those who prefer to explore, visit the fishing villages of the Vezo people, who live along the coastline. Here, you will discover their daily way of life, especially their deep connection to the sea through fishing, as they remain a highly traditional community where the respect for sea deities is still very present.
