ITINERARY
DAY 1 : ANTANANARIVO
Arrival at Ivato. Steps for the visa. Guests are welcomed by our representative and transfer to hotel. Installation at the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
DAY 2 : ANTANANARIVO - ANDASIBE
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Andasibe. On the road, enjoy a panoramic view of the eastern highlands of Madagascar. Stop in Marozevo to visit the private reserve of Peyreiras. During the visit, we can observe endemic island animals such as chameleons, frogs, and more. After a 1-hour visit, continue towards Moramanga. There is a possibility to visit the market and explore the city of Moramanga. Then, continue the road to Andasibe National Park. Arrival in the late afternoon. Accommodation at the hotel.
DAY 3 : ANDASIBE
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to visit Analamazaotra National Park, the only national park where you can find the largest lemur in Madagascar, the Indri Indri. The park is located in a humid area, home to a variety of flora and fauna, many of which are endemic. We will have a 2-3 hour visit. In the afternoon, visit the Vakona Reserve, with the possibility of seeing other species of lemurs and various animals. Accommodation at the hotel.
DAY 4 : ANDASIBE - ANTSIRABE
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Antsirabe. On the way, enjoy a panoramic view of the rice fields and the tombs of the Highlands of Madagascar. Stop for a visit in Ambatolampy to see the manufacture of aluminum pots. In the afternoon, arrival in Antsirabe. Visit the City of Waters and some Malagasy craft workshops. Accommodation at the hotel.
DAY 5 : ANTSIRABE - RANOMAFANA
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Ambositra, the capital of Malagasy crafts and wood carving. Visit some craft shops in the city of Ambositra. Then continue to Ranomafana. Along the way, admire the landscapes of the Betsileo ethnic group, with its unique architecture and rice culture. Accommodation at the hotel.
DAY 6 : RANOMAFANA - FIANARANTSOA (Park Ranomafana)
In the morning, we take a guided walking excursion with a local guide in Ranomafana National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This dense, humid forest, along with its bamboo forest and marshland, is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species. We trek through the primary rainforest, which shelters more than a hundred bird species, a dozen endemic lemurs, as well as various endangered amphibians, reptiles, and butterflies. The flora is just as diverse, with epiphytic orchids, some carnivorous plants, and medicinal herbs. In the afternoon, we arrive in Fianarantsoa, the capital of the Betsileo highlands, which stretches across three levels and is composed of traditional houses with verandas and numerous churches. It is a major crossroads in the heart of the southern region. After checking in, we spend the night at the hotel.
DAY 7 : FIANARANTSOA - AMBALAVAO - RANOHIRA
After breakfast, we take a short tour of Fianarantsoa to admire its historic monuments. We then continue our journey to Ambalavao, where we visit a small workshop that produces traditional Antaimoro paper. Lunch is at your leisure at Résidence Betsileo, a beautiful site. We then resume our journey towards Ranohira, leaving behind the lush green landscapes of the highlands. As we pass through the gateway to the south, we enter Bara territory. We then cross the vast Horombe Plateau, the largest semi-arid plateau in Madagascar, before arriving in Ranohira in the late afternoon. We check into a charming hotel with an exceptional setting.
DAY 8 : RANOHIRA
We dedicate a full day to exploring Isalo National Park. We hike through this rugged sandstone massif, shaped by time since the Jurassic period, with its unique geomorphology, endemic vegetation, and a distinctive fauna, including rock-dwelling reptiles, most of which are endemic. The park offers breathtaking lunar landscapes, where deep canyons disappear into a savanna of tall grasses dotted with tapia forests. Accompanied by a local guide, we follow marked trails to discover natural pools, waterfalls, and lemurs. This journey takes us through a rich and mysterious culture shaped by geological ages, while we enjoy stunning panoramic views. We return to the village in the evening for an overnight stay.
DAY 9 : RANOHIRA - TULEAR - IFATY
We set off early on National Road 7 to reach Tuléar, 250 kilometers away. This route takes us through Ilakaka, a village that sprang up in just three months following the discovery of the world's largest sapphire deposit. You will be amazed by the vast savanna-like landscapes and the sight of the first baobab trees. By late morning, we arrive in Tuléar, also known as the "City of the Sun" due to its hot and arid climate, with 360 days of sunshine per year. We stop at Auberge de la Table, where we take the opportunity to visit the Arboretum, home to a wide variety of endemic plants and shrubs. This region is a fascinating blend of ethnic groups and cultures that will surprise you before we continue our journey to Ifaty. We take a small sandy track, passing through coastal villages and mangroves. We arrive in the late afternoon, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 10 : IFATY
Our journey comes to an end with a free day in Ifaty. This is the perfect time to relax, swim, and unwind on the white sandy beaches of Ifaty’s lagoon. You can also take a ride in a traditional pirogue, a picturesque boat typical of this region. For those who prefer to explore, visit the fishing villages of the Vezo people, who live along the coastline. Here, you will discover their daily way of life, especially their deep connection to the sea through fishing, as they remain a highly traditional community where the respect for sea deities is still very present.
DAY 11 : IFATY - TULEAR - ANTANANARIVO (domestic flight)
On the last day of our tour, we head to Tuléar airport to catch our flight to Antananarivo. From there, you can either connect to an international flight or continue your journey on another tour.
DAY 12 : ANTANANARIVO - FLIGHT BACK
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit of the city of Antananarivo. Visit of the craft market, the largest market in the capital. Transfer to Ivato airport to take the international flight. Boarding formalities.
